House Democrats have found a legal way to hold a vote despite Mike Johnson's opposition.
US Congress
Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson risks being left out of the process of adopting a bill to provide Ukraine with $60 billion, which he is slowing down with all his might.
< According to Voice of America, congressmen from the Democratic Party have found a legal procedure that allows them to submit documents for discussion in the lower house of Congress without the consent of the majority leader. To do this, you need to create a special petition, which must receive the support of at least 218 parliamentarians.
Democrats now have 213 votes, but the initiative can also be supported by a considerable number of Republicans. However, congressmen still admit that it would be easier and faster to persuade Mike Johnson to finally stop blocking the bill and put it to a vote.
- Johnson's position is beginning to become more flexible: he said that this issue will be considered, but only after the vote on funding the government.
- The House of Representatives, meanwhile, has already voted for a bill preventing the announcement of a “shutdown” in the country.
