The Lega party released a slightly different version of the statement of the three political forces.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni
The three parties, likely to form a majority, do not have an agreed position on the war in Ukraine. This conclusion was made by the publication Euractiv.
The assumption is based on the text of the statement released after the meeting of the leaders of the political parties: Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni from the Brothers of Italy party, Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini from Lega and Deputy Prime Minister Antonio Tajani from Forza Italia.
While the Brothers of Italy version emphasized the “common view of the government's position regarding the war in Ukraine”, the Lega party's statement contained a mention of “support for Kyiv, but condemnation of any military intervention outside the Ukrainian borders”.
This sentence was later removed from the party's resources. The press service stated that it appeared there due to “a hastily made mistake”. Matteo Salvini also noted that there are no contradictions between the parties and called the change in the text “stylistic coordination”.
However, the opposition believes that “Lega” may blackmail the government over the Ukrainian issue, and the difference between the versions was compared to “support or the position of the Hungarian government of Viktor Orban, or the EU, the US and Great Britain.”
