If a serviceman refuses to return, he could be sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Servicemen who left their units or places of service without permission must return voluntarily by January 1, 2025, to avoid sentencing in criminal proceedings and retain all social guarantees.
This was recalled by the State Bureau of Investigations' communications adviser Tatyana Sapyan. The possibility of return is established by the law recently adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. before January 1, to arrive at their military units to continue their service.
“The head of the military unit no later than 72 hours from the date of their arrival at the military unit or place of service continues the contract, and also resumes the payment of money, food, clothing and other types of support. In addition, according to her, all benefits provided by the state are resumed for such a serviceman. The commander must also notify the pre-trial investigation body and the military law enforcement service that the serviceman's military contract is continuing,” the State Bureau of Investigation explained.
According to Sapyan, this “guarantees that an automatic procedure for closing the criminal prosecution that was initiated against the serviceman begins.”
