Celebrations on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day of Ukraine were held in Kyiv with the participation of the president. The largest state flag was raised at the Motherland Monument.
The event was attended by military personnel, including Commander-in-Chief Alexander Syrsky, as well as officials.
Zelensky thanked every soldier who stood up to defend Ukraine both in 2014 and after the start of the full-scale invasion. For more than a thousand days, soldiers have been defending the fate of the country with weapons in their hands.

Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrsky congratulated the defenders on the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In his address, he said that the modern Armed Forces have inherited the courage and love of freedom in previous Ukrainian military formations: the Sich Riflemen, the Army of the UPR and the Ukrainian Galician Army, the heroes of Kholodny Yar, the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.
Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reports that over the past 24 hours, the Defense Forces have eliminated another 1,660 occupiers. Since the beginning of the invasion, the enemy army has lost about 750,610 soldiers.

At night, the defenders shot down more than ten Russian drones that were threatening Kyiv. According to preliminary data, there is a fall of debris, but without serious damage and casualties. The enemy launched UAVs in different directions, in most cases – singly. This was reported by the head of the Kyiv city military administration, Serhiy Popko. Air raid sirens were declared in the city twice during the night and lasted for a total of 4 hours.

As of 07:00, units of the anti-aircraft missile forces, electronic warfare and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine shot down 32 enemy UAVs in the Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Kyiv and Zhitomir regions.
16 drones were lost, 2 left the controlled airspace in the direction of Belarus.
The Guardian reports, citing its own sources in Washington, that on Thursday a Ukrainian delegation led by the head of the Presidential Office Andriy Yermak met with White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
The official, who has been criticized in the Ukrainian information space for his policy of “containing the escalation,” promised to provide our country with hundreds of thousands of additional artillery shells, thousands of missiles and hundreds of armored vehicles by mid-January. The press service of the State Film Agency reported on inclusion of three Ukrainian films in the long list of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences “Oscar”.
The previous list of 169 films included the ironic detective in the genre of “post-Soviet noir” “At Palisiad” by director Philipp Sotnichenko, as well as the documentaries “Peaceful People” by Oksana Karpovich and “Porcelain Leontya”.
“At Palisiad” will compete for the award in the category “Best International Feature Film”. Two other films will compete for the statuette for the best documentary film, which last year was awarded for the first time in the history of Ukraine to the domestic film “20 Days in Mariupol” by Mstislav Chernov.
