The museum complex announced a rethinking of the myth of the Soviet totalitarian regime.
The National Museum of the History of Ukraine in World War II announced on its Facebook page that the letters and images of the Soviet medal “Gold Star” were dismantled from the Alley of Hero Cities in the capital.
Specialists from the National Research Restoration Center of Ukraine examined the bas-reliefs and drew up a document in which they substantiated the need to dismantle the names of cities and Soviet symbols.
The museum claims that this is an “important and symbolic step” in “rethinking one of the fundamental propaganda myths of the Soviet totalitarian regime.” .
Judging by the photographs, the dismantling took place at least on those steles that were dedicated to Moscow, Novorossiysk and Minsk.
