A fighter died at the front in Ukraine
This is stated in a message from the Latvian army on Facebook.
“We express our deep condolences to the family of volunteer soldier Edgar Platonov, who died in Ukraine. The serviceman died last year, on December 25, selflessly fighting the Russian occupation army in Novoegorovka, Luhansk region, as part of the International Legion of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the military reported.
Platonov joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a volunteer, he did not serve in the armed forces of Latvia, the Latvian Ministry of Defense reported, Delfi reports.
- Earlier, in October 2023, another volunteer from Latvia, Vitaly Smirnov, died. This happened in the Liman area as a result of an attack by a Russian drone.
