The US President is not sure about the need for the United States “to spend any money on NATO”.
As Reuters writes, the Republican complained that while the United States is protecting the Alliance member countries, “they are not protecting us.” At the same time, Trump is convinced that even if the allocation of funds to NATO needs is stopped, the United States “must still help its allies.”
The head of state repeated his demand that the Alliance increase defense spending from 2% of GDP to 5%. At the same time, not a single NATO member state, including the United States, meets this standard of military financing.
