Zelensky appointed the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Drapatiy to lead the Khortytsia Special Operations Command

The major general will combine both areas of work.

Zelensky appointed the commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Drapatiy to lead the Joint Strategic Forces Group

The head of state announced this in an evening video address on January 26.

<p>Subscribe to our YouTube channel</p> <p>The President specified that Drapatiy will retain the powers of the commander of the Ground Forces.</p> <p>Zelensky said that the Ground Forces are the most numerous part of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and that this, in his opinion, “will help to combine the combat work of the army with the proper training of brigades.” </p> <p>“It is the frontline needs that should determine the standards for staffing and training brigades,” the head of state added. </p> <ul> <li>Zelensky appointed Drapatiy to the post of commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in November last year. </p> <p> li> </ul> <h3>Who is Mykhailo Drapatiy</h3> <ul> <li>Major General – former commander of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion of the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, which entered Mariupol in May 2014 to reinforce the units repelling the terrorist assault and to free the hostages.</li> <li>Same Drapatoy led a column of four vehicles in an infantry fighting vehicle and broke through a barricade.</li> <li>In 2014, he entered the National Defense University. Then he transferred to correspondence courses and returned to the ATO zone as chief of staff of the 30th Separate Mechanized Brigade. In 2016, he was the commander of the 58th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade, and since 2017 – the brigade commander directly in the ATO zone.</li> <li>In April 2019, Drapatoy was prematurely awarded the next military rank of colonel. In August of the same year, he transferred the 58th Brigade to another commander and began two years of study as a student at the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National Defense University of Ukraine.</li> <li>Until January 2024, he headed the Kherson operational group. He is known as one of the commanders who led the liberation of the right bank of the Kherson region in 2022.</li> <li>In February 2024, he was appointed Deputy Chief of the General Staff for military
