Lutsk and the Volyn Diocese of the UOC (VCU), on the initiative and order of Metropolitan Mikhail of Lutsk and Volyn were indeed created in an iconographic style and placed at a height next to the icons of saints, in a place and forms not typical of donor images, which caused a wide negative resonance. The Holy Synod came to the conclusion that such placement of images of currently living secular patrons is a serious violation of the Orthodox iconographic tradition.

Although the Orthodox tradition recognizes the possibility of depicting in the church and even in the composition of icons persons who do not belong to the saints canonized by the Church, but only in accordance with the style and forms, completely excluding the mixing of these persons with the glorified saints.< /p>

“Considering that for more than five years Metropolitan Michael was unable to organize the work of the Synodal Commission for Monasteries and Monasticism, deliberately ignoring his duties as the head of the commission and did not hold its meeting – the Synod decided to dismiss him from the chairmanship and membership in the said Synodal Commission with a certificate from the Holy Synod of dissatisfaction with the failure to fulfill the obedience entrusted to Metropolitan Michael,” the Holy Synod noted.
