Google has announced new requirements for employees working remotely. Those who primarily work from home must now officially register their status as remote workers. Additionally, they are required to provide their permanent residential address, reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing CNBC.

Employees who do not formalize their remote status will be expected to attend the office at least three days a week. Furthermore, the company may impose additional restrictions on fully remote workers, such as making them ineligible for bonuses or career promotions.

These new policies were introduced after Google tightened attendance monitoring at its offices last year, citing the need to enhance teamwork and corporate culture. Managers can now consider in-office presence when conducting annual performance reviews.

In 2021, Google adopted a hybrid work model requiring employees to visit the office several times a week. However, at that time, exceptions were made for those who wished to work entirely remotely by submitting a special request. Under the updated policy, only officially approved remote employees may continue working from home full-time, while all others must follow the hybrid schedule.

According to company representatives, the goal of the new regulations is to ensure transparency in employment conditions and support effective team collaboration.
