Alexei Navalny fought for the values of freedom and democracy. For the sake of his ideals, he made the ultimate sacrifice. The EU holds the Russian regime solely responsible for this tragic death. I express my deepest condolences to his family. And to those who fight for democracy around the world in the darkest conditions. Soldiers are dying. But the fight for freedom never ends,” wrote Charles Michel.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz expressed condolences to Navalny’s family at a briefing with Vladimir Zelensky.

“This depresses us very much. I met him in Berlin when he was being treated in Germany for the consequences of poisoning, and talked with him about the courage that was required to return to Russia. He paid for this life,” he said.

“It became known that Alexei Navalny died in a Russian prison. Obviously, he was killed by Putin, who and thousands of others were tortured, tortured because of this one creature. Putin doesn’t care who dies, as long as he maintains his position. And that’s why he should not save anything. Putin must lose everything, must lose everything and be held accountable for what he has done,” President Vladimir Zelensky said at the same briefing.
