Argentine President Javier Miley wants to hold a summit of Latin American states supporting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression.

He stated this to the British newspaper Financial Times.

Miley noted that the summit could take place later this year, but did not provide more detailed information.

The President Argentina told the publication that it prefers alliances with “countries that defend freedom,” including the United States and Israel, which he visited in early February, and Ukraine, which he donated two Russian-made military helicopters.

FT writes that the initiative on the holding of the summit shows a sharp difference between Miley's position and the neutral positions of other regional presidents, in particular the Brazilian Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the Mexican Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. At the same time, Miley met with Donald Trump at a conference of conservatives in the United States, expressing hope that the ex-president would return to the White House. “You were a very wonderful president, and I hope you will be again,” the Argentine said. Let us remember that in December last year, Trump wished his opponents “to rot in hell along with their Ukraine and Russia” and other problems for Christmas. The ex-president of the United States also called on US House Speaker Mike Johnson to oppose the compromise on aid to Ukraine.

  • At the end of 2023, Bloomberg wrote that Argentina had agreed to hold a pro-Ukrainian summit in the region in early 2024. This information was confirmed by Deputy Office of the President of Ukraine Igor Zhovkva. According to him, this was discussed during the meeting between Zelensky and Miley.
