  • Previously, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg proposed creating a fund to support Ukraine worth $100 billion over five years, a decision that alliance leaders should sign at a meeting in Washington in July.
  • The creation of such a fund was also supported by Canada.Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Melanie, who is taking part in the NATO ministerial meeting currently ongoing in Brussels, said that assistance was one of the ideas that Canada proposed during negotiations in “Group of Seven.”
  • Also, the United States and other Western countries are considering the possibility of transferring the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (“Ramstein”) under NATO control.
  • Later, Stoltenberg said that NATO should ensure the expected assistance from Ukraine and change the dynamics of support. According to him, NATO must provide reliable and expectedly secure assistance to Ukraine in the long term, so that “there is less reliance on voluntary contributions and more on NATO commitments, less on short-term offers and more on multi-year promises.”
