Ukraine returned two more children from the occupied Luhansk region

Two teenage girls were returned from the temporarily Russian-occupied territory of the Luhansk region.

This was reported by the Ministry for the Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories.

At the time of the large-scale Russian invasion, they lived with their grandparents in a village in the Luhansk region. Their mother worked in the city. The village was quickly captured by the Russians, so it was not possible to take the daughters out immediately.

During 2022, the girls were forced to study at school according to the Russian program. Subsequently, the invaders began to put pressure on the grandparents, threatened and insisted on formalizing guardianship of their granddaughters according to the Russian model.

The girls could not see their mother for almost two years because of the war. The Ministry of Reintegration, the public union “Ukrainian Network for Children's Rights” and the project for finding and returning children “The Way Home” helped to remove the sisters.

Recently, a 14-year-old orphan girl was returned to Ukrainian-controlled territory after the death of her grandmother was left alone in the occupied territory. Four other children and their parents managed to leave with her.
