Ukraine is already preparing for the upcoming NATO summit, which is planned to happen in the United States. Kiev wants to reject the request to the alliance.
RBC-Ukraine reports this in response to the statement of President Volodymyr Zelensky in an evening video.
“We are preparing for NATO itself, which will be ta. A strong political signal is needed – the Alliance is not afraid of power and is not afraid of power bases. The country that shares valuable values is ready to actually protect them, deserves a request to the Alliance,” the president said.
It is significant that NATO plans for the period from 9 to 11 June. The summit, which honors the 75th creation of NATO, will be held in Washington. In the United States, they announced that they would praise NATO’s decision to support Ukraine for a long time.
Ukraine and joining NATO
Ukraine, after the large-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, applied to join NATO. At the same time, Kiev was waiting for an accelerated procedure for joining NATO without the so-called Good Action Plan. Then Ukraine wants to become a member of the alliance without any advanced minds.
At the current meeting in Lithuania, NATO announced that Ukraine will definitely become a member of NATO immediately after the end of the war. However, Kiev wants to cancel the official request, which would be a guarantee of joining the alliance.
As Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanishina said, the United States and Germany are opposing Ukraine’s official request to NATO.
Recently, Stefanishina said that the decision on Ukraine’s request to join NATO is not tied to the Washington summit.
