Where you can go to commemorate Juneteenth in 2026 includes museums, parks, cultural centers, cinemas, and downtown festivals across Maryland. Programs combine Black history with music, art, education, food, and community gatherings, reports the Baltimore Chronicle editorial team.

Juneteenth marks June 19, 1865, when Union troops announced emancipation in Galveston, Texas. The date became a federal holiday in 2021.

Juneteenth Events on Friday, June 19

Several free events are scheduled around Baltimore and neighboring communities:

  • Reginald F. Lewis Museum, Baltimore: cultural programs and free admission from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Pikesville Armory: Juneteenth Jubilee from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Elkton Community Center: community celebration from 10:45 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Benjamin Banneker Historical Park, Catonsville: free festival from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Woodlawn Memorial Park: festival from 12:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Visitors should check organizer pages before traveling. Programs and entry conditions may change because of weather or capacity.

Art and Community Events on June 20

The American Visionary Art Museum will honor Black artists through storytelling, history, and family activities. Howard County will host its block party at the Harriet Tubman Cultural Center from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Annapolis begins its parade at noon. A free festival follows at the Bates Athletic Complex from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Juneteenth Events Throughout the Weekend

Annapolis also hosts a June 19 concert at Carrs Elktonia Beach from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pikes Studio Cinema will screen 12 films connected with Juneteenth and Father’s Day.

These events offer several ways to commemorate Juneteenth. Residents can choose historical programs, visual art, live performances, films, or outdoor community celebrations.
