The British publication The Guardian, citing documents from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the FSB and the Russian Armed Forces, seized from buildings in the Kursk region by a Ukrainian special forces group, stated that Moscow knew about the Defense Forces' intention to conduct an operation in the Russian border region, NBN reports.
Journalists said that some of the documents are printed orders that the Russians sent to various units, and some are handwritten journals recording events and problems at certain positions.
The most recent entries were made by the occupiers 6 weeks before the Ukrainian Armed Forces began their offensive in the Kursk region. The earliest documents were drawn up at the end of last year. They confirm that on February 19, the occupiers' commanders were informed of the Defense Forces' intention to quickly advance from Sumy region into Russian territory to a depth of up to 80 kilometers.
In the middle of the following month, the Russian Armed Forces units on the border were ordered to strengthen their defensive lines. At the beginning of the summer, the Russians learned of the Ukrainian forces' plans to take control of Sudzha. At the same time, the occupiers' command was able to staff the units deployed at the front by 60-70%, which consisted of poorly trained reserves.
The publication's sources said that on August 6, when the Ukrainian Armed Forces began their offensive in the Kursk region, many of the occupiers abandoned their positions. The enemy did not even destroy important documents or take them with them.
Within a week, the defense forces established control over Sudzha, during the chaotic retreat of the Russian Armed Forces, they captured many of Putin's soldiers, including conscripts.
Recall that Defense Express reported that Ukrainian forces had moved to the second phase of the offensive in the border region of the aggressor country.
