The French news agency Agence France Presse, citing a source close to Volodymyr Zelensky, reported that the Ukrainian leader refused to allow the Secretary General of the United Nations to visit the country, NBN writes.
According to the journalists' source, this is due to Guterres' trip to Kazan, Russia, for the BRICS summit and a meeting with Kremlin dictator Vladimir Putin.
Recall that the UN Secretary General has repeatedly visited Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. Guterres visited the country in April and August 2022, as well as in March 2023.
This summer, the organization's Secretary General refused to participate in the first Global Peace Summit, initiated by Kiev, which took place in Switzerland.
On October 22-24, Guterres was in Kazan, where the BRICS summit was taking place, where he also met with the Russian dictator. The UN tried to justify the Secretary General's visit to the Russian Federation, calling his participation in the event “standard practice.”
