As NBN reports with reference to the statement voiced by the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy, Daniil Getmantsev, on the air of a telethon on the YouTube Channel “TSN”, the entire amount of money received from the increase in excise taxes on tobacco/cigarettes will go exclusively to one purpose.
Based on Getmantsev's words, the said bill, which has been developed over the past 6 months, was able to pass through the parliamentary committees, since the people's representatives were able to find some compromise, increasing the excise tax by 40 hryvnia (the rate is “tied” to the euro exchange rate, so it may vary) from January 2025.
The MP from the Servant of the People faction emphasized:
The cost of a pack of cigarettes will increase by about 40 hryvnia, and all this money will go to the army.
At the same time, the bill introduces a schedule for an identical increase in excise rates, up until 2028, bringing them up to 90 euros per 1,000 cigarettes (about 80 hryvnia per pack) within the framework of the so-called “European implementation”, that is, the fulfillment of the obligations given by Kiev to Brussels.
