Not long ago, the new leader of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, asked Moscow to extradite the former president of this country, Bashar al-Assad, who fled to Russia in December last year, but, as it turned out, these are not all of Damascus’s claims.

As NBN reports with reference to Bloomberg material, representatives of the new Syrian government at the first negotiations (since the overthrow of the Assad regime) with the official delegation of the Russian Federation, raised the issue of paying “compensations” and “correcting the mistakes of the past” by the aggressor country.

In particular, during the dialogue between the above-described diplomats, the role of the Russian Federation in restoring trust among the people of Syria was outlined, through the adoption and introduction of specific measures— payment of compensation, as well as the implementation of reconstruction and restoration of damaged infrastructure. In addition, the new Syrian government emphasized that in order to fully restore relations, the Russian Federation should pay attention to eliminating the mistakes of the past.

In addition to all of the above, the Syrians pointed out the need for justice in relation to the victims of the regime of the overthrown Assad, previously supported by Russia.

However, no details are given, and for this reason it is not entirely clear whether we are talking about financial reparations, and if so, then in what amount.

Earlier, we wrote that the US State Department partially unblocked American aid to a number of foreign programs.
