In an interview with OBOZ.UA, the former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States admitted contacts between Washington and Moscow behind Kyiv's back if Ukraine does not will seize the strategic initiative at the front from the Russian Federation. In this case, there is a risk of holding a negotiation process based on the demands of the Kremlin dictator, writes NBN.
The former diplomat believes that there is a danger of a new “Yalta” between Putin, Trump and Xi Jinping. To prevent this, a clear position from Ukraine and a reaction from Europe are needed, which should not allow the division of our country.
Shamshur drew attention to the fact that the Russian leader is reacting rather reservedly to the harsh statements of the American president and pretends not to have noticed his ultimatum. Putin needs a pause in the war, given the state of the Russian economy and its armed forces.
The ambassador believes that the Russian leadership views Trump's return to the White House as an absolute plus for Moscow, which hopes to reach agreements that will meet its interests.
He added that it is very important that contacts between the United States and Russia do not take place behind Ukraine's back, but at the moment it is not clear whether this will really be the case.
As reported, the Kremlin commented on the White House chief's proposal to send weapons to Ukraine in exchange for its valuable raw materials.
