As reported by NBN, citing sources from the Financial Times, the US administration is considering an alternative option that would involve concluding an identical agreement with the Democratic Republic of the Congo (Africa).
According to the publication's sources, the territory of Congo contains large reserves of critical resources that the United States needs to produce modern technological products.
In addition, the US State Department notes that this African state allegedly approached the White House with a proposal for a deal that would guarantee American companies access to minerals, but only if the United States supports Congolese President Felix Tshisekedi.
However, it is assumed that in addition to strengthening the economies of the United States and Congo, this deal will create “highly skilled jobs” and will facilitate the integration of the republic “into global and regional supply chains.”
Also, the Congolese authorities may ask the US for military assistance, as they are fighting in the provinces of North/South Kivu.
