The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has recorded another series of explosions at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, which remains under Russian occupation. This marks the fourth such incident since the beginning of 2025, reports the Baltimore Chronicle with reference to IAEA.

According to a statement by the agency’s Director General Rafael Grossi, observers stationed permanently at the facility clearly registered multiple explosions and gunfire in the immediate vicinity of the plant. The incident occurred during the day on June 5. Between 11:30 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. local time, at least five explosions were heard, each preceded by gunfire. Additional shots were also reported after 2:00 p.m.

According to information provided by the ZNPP administration, the explosions and gunfire were linked to activities aimed at “neutralizing drones” near the plant’s training center. The origin and affiliation of the drones remain unknown, and no entity has claimed responsibility for launching them.

Director General Grossi emphasized that such incidents pose a serious danger. He stressed that the operation of drones near nuclear facilities represents a significant threat to their physical security. Grossi called for the immediate cessation of such actions.

No reports of infrastructure damage or injuries have been received. However, the IAEA underscored that this is not the first time the ZNPP training center has been targeted. In particular, in April, due to shelling near the main administrative building, the agency’s observers were temporarily forced to leave their posts.

Earlier we wrote that IAEA finds no evidence of Zaporizhzhia NPP restart plans.
