As Variety writes, the first film will be presented in the Imax format a few weeks before its debut on Netflix, scheduled for Christmas 2026. The project will be part of a large-scale collaboration between Netflix and Gerwig, which began in 2020. The director will work on two films based on Lewis' classic works.

According to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos, these films promise to be the next big franchise for the platform.

We want to create a world that does not contradict the imagination of the audience, but make it bigger and bolder,” said Sarandos.

The Chronicles of Narnia is an iconic series of children's literature that has captivated readers for over 70 years. Previous film adaptations, including The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005), were a significant commercial success. Now Netflix aims to bring these stories into a new era, promising a modern approach to visualization and storytelling.

A fantasy premiere for Gerwig is a risky but ambitious move that could solidify her status as one of the most exciting female directors of our time. .
