Dmitry Gubanov gave his life defending his homeland from invaders.
Multiple Ukrainian champion, bronze medalist of the European Junior Rowing Championship Dmitry Gubanov died in the war against the Russian invaders.
The press service of the National Olympic Committee reported the tragic news (NOC) on his Facebook page.
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, Gubanov joined the ranks of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The 28-year-old athlete took part in fierce battles in the hottest spots of eastern Ukraine.
“He stopped communicating in the summer, on August 2, 2023. Unfortunately, his death became known only now, after many months expectations and hopes. Dmitry is survived by his beloved wife and daughter.
The Olympic family of Ukraine sincerely sympathizes with the family, relatives and friends of the athlete. Together with all of you, we share the grief, we support in the hour of grief. Bright and eternal memory of the Hero!” , – says the NOC.
Gubanov is a master of sports of Ukraine, multiple champion of Ukraine, bronze medalist of the European Championship among juniors under 19 years old and finalist of the World Championship among youth under 23 years old.
