Ukrainian tennis player Dayana Yastremska made it to the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid.
The 23-year-old native of Odessa (No. 34 WTA) started at these competitions immediately from the second round, in which she defeated Colombian Emiliana Arango (No. 121 WTA).
The match lasted 2 hours and 30 minutes. Yastremskaya lost the first set with a score of 0:6, but then managed to pull herself together and won the next two games – 7:5, 6:4.
Dayana served twice in the match, made 5 double faults and used 7 of 16 break points.
This advance to the 1/16 finals is Yastremskaya’s personal record at the tournament in the capital of Spain. Before that, she played here three times in the main draw, but could never reach the third round.
In the third round, Yastremskaya will play the winner of the match between the third racket of the world, American Cori Gauff, and Dutch Arancha Rus (No. 47 WTA) .
Earlier, Ukrainians Lesya Tsurenko and Elina Svitolina dropped out of the tournament in Madrid. At these competitions, Ukraine will also be represented by Marta Kostyuk and Angelina Kalinina, who will start with the second round matches on Friday, April 26.
