Not a single athlete from the aggressor states will compete at the Olympic fencing tournament in Paris.
Russian and Belarusian fencers will not compete at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
This was announced by the President of the European Fencing Confederation Giorgio Scarso in interview with France24.
According to him, none of the Russians and Belarusians showed up for the Olympic qualifying tournament in Luxembourg, which will be the last before the 2024 Games. Also, fencers from the aggressor states did not participate in previous qualifying competitions.
“Unfortunately, there are no Russian or Belarusian athletes. The application submission date has passed. The reason for their absence is unknown, there was no official letter of explanation,” – said Scarso.
The 2024 Olympic Games will be held from July 26 to August 11 in Paris.
Recall that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine admittedRussian and Belarusian athletes to the 2024 Olympics in a neutral status. They will only be able to compete in individual competitions, while teams from aggressor countries will not be allowed. Any national symbols of the Russian Federation and Belarus are also prohibited – anthems, flags, etc.
