The Ukrainian became the owner of the IBF lightweight belt.
On Sunday, May 12, the Ukrainian boxer Vasiliy Lomachenkodefeated Australian George Kambosos in a fight for the vacant IBF world lightweight champion belt.
The fight took place in Australia city of Perth. The Ukrainian knocked out the Australian in the 11th round.
Throughout the entire fight, Vasily had the initiative and inflicted many strong and accurate blows on his opponent, which led to numerous bruises and a cut on Cabosos’ face .
In the 11th round, the Ukrainian finally finished off his opponent. At first, Lomachenko knocked down Cabosos, but he got to his feet and was determined to continue the fight. However, Vasily immediately pinned the Australian in the corner of the ring and forced him to kneel again – the referee intervened and stopped the fight, recording an early victory for our compatriot.
For Lomachenko, this was the first fight since May 2023, when he was unanimous lost by judge's decision to American Devin Haney in the fight for the title of absolute world lightweight champion. Now the 36-year-old Ukrainian has 18 victories (12 by knockout) and 3 defeats in the professional ring.
Kambosos suffered the third defeat in his career. The 30-year-old Australian also has 21 victories (10 by knockout).
