Mykhailo prematurely ended his performance at the Games in Paris.

Ukrainian swimmer Mykhailo Romanchuk will not compete in the 1500-meter freestyle qualification at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

The athlete himself reported this in a comment for Suspilne Sport.

According to Romanchuk, a day before Before the start, he had a high temperature and his physical condition worsened.

The qualification for the 1,500-meter freestyle swimming will take place on Saturday, August 3, at 12:25 Kyiv time.

This was supposed to be the last start for the 27-year-old Ukrainian at the Paris Games. Previously, he failed to reach the final of the 2024 Olympic Games in the 800-meter freestyle swimming.

Romanchuk is a two-time medalist at the 2020 Olympics. At the Tokyo Games, he won silver and bronze in the 1,500-meter and 800-meter freestyle, respectively.

It should be noted that Romanchuk is not the first Ukrainian athlete who was forced to withdraw from the 2024 Olympics due to illness. Before the start of the tennis tournament, Angelina Kalinina also withdrew.

Ukraine is represented at the XXXIII Summer Olympics by 140 athletes who compete in 23 sports. The Paris Games will last until August 11.

Currently, the “blue-yellows” have two medals in their collection at the 2024 Olympics: Olga Kharlan won bronze in sabre fencing, and Sergey Kulish won silver in shooting.

Another medal at the 2024 Olympics, at least a bronze one, was guaranteed for Ukraine by Oleksandr Khizhnyak, who reached the semi-finals of the boxing tournament.
