Oksana Livach stopped one step away from a medal at the second Olympic Games in a row.
Ukrainian freestyle wrestler Oksana Livach failed to win a bronze medal at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In the fight for the “bronze” (weight category up to 50 kg), the 27-year-old Ukrainian was defeated by the Japanese Yui Susaki, who is the champion of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The fight ended with a score of 0:10, not in favor of our athlete.
Livac started in the Olympic tournament the day before, on August 6. In her first fight, she was stronger than the representative of Uzbekistan Aktenge Kevnimzhaeva (10:0), but then in the quarterfinals she lost to the representative of India Vinesh Phegot (5:7).
The Ukrainian's offender was able to reach the final, thanks to which Oksana received the right to fight for the “bronze” through repechage fights, where to win a medal it was necessary to defeat two opponents.
However, later Phegot failed the weigh-in and was disqualified, therefore Livac received the right to avoid one of the fights and immediately compete for the “bronze”.
It should be noted that Livach was also close to winning a medal at the 2020 Olympics, but in the fight for the bronze medal, she lost to American Sarah Ann Hildebrandt.
Earlier, Ukrainian Greco-Roman wrestler Parviz Nasibov reached the final and guaranteed Ukraine another medal at the 2024 Olympics.
Another representative of our country in Greco-Roman wrestling, Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Zhan Beleniuk lost in the semi-finals of the 2024 Olympics and will fight for the bronze medal.
