In terms of the number of medals won, the Ukrainian team shares fourth place with the United States.
Ukraine won 11 medals on the third competition day of the 2024 Paralympic Games.
On Saturday, August 31, Ukrainian para-athletes won Paris 4 silver and 7 bronze medals.
“Silver” was won by Vladimir Ponomarenko (athletics, shot put, class F12), Egor Dementyev(track cycling, individual pursuit, 4000 m, class C5), Anna Stetsenko (swimming, 100 m, backstroke, class S12) and Andrey Trusov (swimming, 200 m, medley, class SM7).
The bronze medalists were Viktor Didukh and Irina Shinkareva (table tennis, mixed, doubles tournament, class XD17), Roman Danilyuk (athletics, shot put, class F12), Yaroslav Denisenko(swimming, 100 m, backstroke, class S12), Anna Stetsenko (swimming, 400 m, freestyle, class S12), Anton Kol (swimming, 50 m, backstroke, class S1), Evgeniy Bogodayko (swimming, 200 m, medley, class SM7), and Marina Poddubnaya (swimming, 50 m, freestyle, class S11).
Based on the results of three days of competition, Ukrainian Paralympians at the 2024 Games have already won 19 medals: one gold, nine silver and nine bronze.
Despite 11 awards on the third day of the 2024 Paralympics, Ukraine dropped from 13th to 20th place in the medal count.
At the same time, in terms of the number of medals won, the Ukrainian team shares fourth place with the US team. Only China, Great Britain and Brazil have won more awards.
China continues to lead the medal count by a huge margin (20 gold, 15 silver and 7 bronze medals). Great Britain is in second place (11+8+6), and Brazil is third (8+3+12).
The Paralympic Games in Paris will last until September 8. Ukraine is represented by 140 athletes competing in 17 sports. This is a record number of sports in the Paralympic history of Ukraine.
Recall that at the previous Summer Paralympic Games, which took place in 2021 in Tokyo, Ukrainian athletes won 98 awards: 24 gold, 47 silver and 27 bronze. With this result, Ukraine took sixth place in the medal count and became fifth in the number of awards.
