Egis Klimas wants to see the second fight of Alexander against Daniel Dubois.
Egis Klimas, manager of the WBC, WBA, WBO and IBO world champion in the heavyweight division Oleksandr Usyk, told who could be the next opponent of his client after the rematch with Tyson Fury.
According to him, the Ukrainian boxer could have a second fight with Briton Daniel Dubois, who currently holds the IBF title.
“When Alexander defeats Tyson for the second time, there will be no more interesting boxers in his weight class, except for Daniel Dubois. He is the IBF title holder. Many still remember the first fight, many say that it was not a blow below the belt, although it was 100% a blow below the belt.
You know, the referee gave us some time to use it, I think every smart fighter will do the same. There are some questions for a lot of people, and after Fury, the ideal fight for Alexander would be with Daniel, then he will be able to prove exactly how he can beat him and become the absolute heavyweight champion for the second time,” Klimas said in an interview with the Boxing King Media YouTube channel.
The Usyk-Fury rematch will take place on December 21 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). All titles held by the Ukrainian boxer will be at stake.
Unlike the first fight, this time the title of absolute world champion will not be at stake, since Alexander previously renounced the IBF title. Now it is held by Dubois, who has already managed to defend it by knockoutAnthony Joshua.
Recall that on the night of August 27, Usyk knocked out Dubois in the ninth round and defended his WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight titles.
However, a scandalous episode occurred in the fifth round of the fight – the Briton hit the Ukrainian below the belt, after which he fell to the canvas of the ring. The referee did not count the knockdown, but gave Alexander a few minutes to recover.
After the fight, Dubois said that he was robbed of the victory. According to the British boxer, his blow hit Usyk not below the belt, but right in the stomach. Daniel expressed confidence that he knocked out the Ukrainian and should have taken possession of the championship belts. In connection with this, Dubois’ team demanded that the result of the fight with Usyk be annulled.
Later, the WBA made an official statement, stating that Dubois’s hit below the belt was a violation of the rules and, after a detailed study of the appeal, ruled that the result of the championship fight remains in force.
