 Ukraine wins first gold at 2025 Winter Universiade

Bohdan Borkovskyi became the champion of the individual biathlon race.

Ukraine won its first award at the 2025 Winter Universiade, which is taking place in Turin, Italy. Biathlete Bohdan Borkovskyi won gold in the short individual race.

Borkovskyi became the champion despite three misses at the shooting range. Two more Ukrainians finished in the top 5: Serhii Suprun came in fourth, and Vladislav Chikhar took fifth place.

Ukrainians Roman Borovyk and Stepan Kinash also took part in the race. They finished in 16th and 20th positions, respectively.

This is Borkovskyi's first gold at an international tournament. Previously, he won medals at the 2023 and 2024 World Youth Championships in the mixed and classic relays, respectively.

This is also Ukraine's first gold in biathlon at the Winter Universiade since 2017, when Nadezhda Belkina won the pursuit race.

In addition, this is the first gold medal for the Ukrainian men's biathlon team at the Winter Universiade since 2015.
