Shakhtar won their second victory in the current tournament.
Donetsk “Shakhtar” beat French “Brest” in the match of the seventh round of the main stage of the Champions League of the 2024/25 season. The match at the “Veltins-Arena” in Gelsenkirchen, Germany ended with a score of 2:0.
The Ukrainian champion opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the match – during a quick counterattack by the “miners”, Brazilian Kevinrealized a one-on-one with the goalkeeper of the French club Marco Bizot.
In the 37th minute, Marino Pusic's charges doubled their advantage in the score – Georgy Sudakov converted a penalty with a shot from a panenka into the center of the goal. This was preceded by a magnificent vertical pass from Sudakov to Irakli Azarov, who was knocked down by Bizot in his own penalty area.
In the second half, the French club had more possession of the ball, but the Miners defended competently and did not allow the opponent to at least reduce the gap in the score.
In the final seconds of the match, the Donetsk club could have made the score crushing, but Alexander Zubkov's goal was cancelled after reviewing the video replay (VAR) due to his foul during the development of the attack.

For Shakhtar, this is the second victory in the current Champions League. The first was won by the Miners in the fourth round against the Swiss Young Boys (2:1).
Shakhtar (7 points) rose to 27th place in the overall standings of the main round of the Champions League and retained their chances of reaching the playoffs. Brest (13 points) is in 11th place.
In the final round of the main round of the most prestigious European Cup, Shakhtar will visit Borussia Dortmund, and Brest will host Real Madrid. The matches will take place on January 29.
