Yevgeny Murzin's team will complete the qualification on February 9 with a nominally “home” game in Riga against North Macedonia
The Ukrainian women's team suffered an away defeat to Portugal (57:60) in the fifth round of the qualification for EuroBasket 2025.
Yevgeny Murzin's team made a good start 7:2, but they finished the first quarter with a minimal lead of one point.
In the second ten minutes, there was an equal fight on the court, and the teams went into the big break with an equal score of 29:29. In the third quarter, Portugal at a certain point reached an eight-point lead, but the Ukrainians managed to get very close to the hosts, losing 40:42 before the final game segment.
Unfortunately, the last quarter did not go according to Ukraine's scenario from the very beginning. Portugal made a powerful 15:0 run at the start – Murzin's team then tried to get back into the game, but the home team did not let the victory slip away.
Kristina Filevych was the most productive player in Ukraine, with 21 points and 8 rebounds. It is also worth noting Miriam Uro-Nile's 18 points.
Thus, the Ukrainian women's team has lost even a mathematical chance of qualifying for EuroBasket 2025 – it won only one of five qualifying matches.
Recall that during the first window in November 2023, the blue-yellows first suffered a crushing defeat away to Serbia (40:82), and then lost to Portugal (63:78). The Ukrainians won their first victory only in the third round in a game against North Macedonia (98:49) in November 2024, and then lost to Serbia again (53:79).
Yevgeny Murzin's team will complete the selection on February 9 in Riga – it will host North Macedonia in a nominally “home” game.
