The fight will take place on March 20 in Murcia, Spain.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has appointed referees for the first match between the national teams of Ukraine and Belgium in the playoffs for the right to play in the elite division of the next Nations League .

As reported on the official UEFA website, the match will be officiated by a Swiss team of referees headed by 36-year-old Sandro Scherer .

He will be assisted on the lines by his compatriots Stefan de Almeida and Jonas Erni, while another Swiss, Lionel Tschudi, will act as the fourth official.

The Swiss Fedai San and Lukas Fandrich will be responsible for the operation of the video replay system (VAR).

Interestingly, before starting his career as a professional referee, Scherer worked as a teacher in various schools and was also an instructor in alpine skiing.

This season, Scherer has refereed matches involving Ukrainian clubs twice. In the summer of 2024, he officiated the Champions League qualifying match between Dynamo Kyiv and Salzburg of Austria, where the Kyivans lost 0:2, and in January 2025, he worked at the game between Shakhtar Donetsk and Brest of France in the main round of the Champions League, which ended in a 2:0 victory for the Miners.

The Ukraine vs. Belgium match will take place on Thursday, March 20, in Murcia, Spain, at the Nueva Condomina stadium. The starting whistle will sound at 21:45 Kyiv time.

The return match between the teams is scheduled for Sunday, March 23, in the Belgian city of Genk.

The winner of the two-match confrontation between Ukraine and Belgium will receive a place in the most prestigious Division A of the League of Nations. The team that loses will play the next tournament in Division B.

Earlier it was reported that the head coach of the “blue-yellows” Serhiy Rebrov announced the composition of the Ukrainian national team for the matches with Belgium in the playoffs of the League of Nations.
