UEFA has issued a disciplinary verdict against a number of Real Madrid players for “indecent behaviour” following the end of the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Atletico .
Defender Antonio Rudiger and forward Kylian Mbappe were given a one-match suspended ban under the auspices of UEFA. The German was also fined 40,000 euros, while the Frenchman was fined 30,000.
Midfielder Dani Ceballos was fined €20,000, while winger Vinicius Junior faced no disciplinary action at all.
Earlier, Atletico sent a complaint to UEFA against Real Madrid players, attaching video recordings. In these videos, Vinicius Junior and Antonio Rudiger showed provocative gestures to the opponent's fans, and Kylian Mbappe demonstrated offensive gestures towards the Colchoneros players.
The gesture that received the greatest resonance was Antonio Rudiger's throat-cutting gesture, which was directed at Atletico fans.
The match in question took place in Madrid on March 12. Atletico won a minimal victory (1:0) in regulation time, taking revenge on their fellow countrymen for the away defeat a week ago (1:2). Overtime did not yield any goals, and the fate of reaching the quarterfinals was determined by a penalty shootout.
In the post-match shootout, Real celebrated a 4-2 victory. However, the goal by the home team's player Julian Alvarez was disallowed after VAR intervention due to a double touch.
Real Madrid will face Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals. The first leg in London will take place on Tuesday, April 8.
