The WBC has ordered lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) to defend his title against interim champion William Zepeda (33-0, 27 KOs).

The parties were given 30 days to negotiate the upcoming fight, and if a deal is not reached by May 6, a promoter bid will be announced.

The WBC has not yet determined the split of the purse. Stevenson's team asked for 70/30 in favor of the champion, while Golden Boy Promotions asked the WBC for a more favorable 55/45 for Zepeda.

Shakur Stevenson last fought in February, defeating British boxer Josh Padley. The fight ended in the ninth round. Stevenson knocked Padley down three times, after which the Briton's corner threw in the towel.

William Zepeda defeated Tevin Farmer in a rematch at the end of March. The Mexican won by majority decision – two referees recorded Zepeda’s victory – 116-112 and 115-113, another considered it a draw – 114:114.
