U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that, as part of the country’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the White House will host the “Patriot Games,” a competition featuring young athletes from each U.S. state and territory, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to CNN. The announcement was made on December 19, 2025.

Trump stated that the inaugural “Patriot Games” will take place in the fall and will be a four-day sports event featuring the top high school athletes — one male and one female from each state and territory. “I promise there will be no men competing in women’s sports. You will see everything except that,” he added.

The announcement quickly drew social media attention, with users mocking the concept and comparing it to the “Hunger Games” — a popular movie franchise based on a dystopian novel in which children are forced to fight to the death in televised arenas.

During the initial announcement in July, Trump had said the event would be televised, with U.S. Secretary of Health Robert F. Kennedy serving as host.

Social media users also recalled that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) previously explored a reality show concept in which immigrants would compete for American citizenship. According to media reports, the idea was proposed by producer Rob Vorsoff, a Canadian immigrant, who emphasized that the project would not be a “Hunger Games” for immigrants.

Additionally, the Trump administration had announced a mixed martial arts (UFC) bout to be held on the White House grounds, originally scheduled for July 4, 2026, to mark the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence. Due to a packed schedule of anniversary events, the date was later moved to June.
