Nnamdi Madubuike returned to Baltimore Ravens practice on July 29 after a 10-month absence caused by a serious neck injury. The defensive tackle passed his physical and left the physically unable to perform list, as the Baltimore Chronicle editorial team reports.
The 28-year-old joined individual drills during Baltimore’s opening training camp practice. His workload remains limited while the medical and coaching staffs manage his return.
Madubuike Clears a Major Medical Hurdle
The Ravens confirmed that Madubuike passed his physical before entering the practice field. He had not trained with the team since September 2025.
Madubuike suffered the neck injury during Week 2 against the Cleveland Browns. He subsequently missed Baltimore’s final 15 games of the season.
The defensive tackle underwent neck surgery in April 2026. Doctors then expressed optimism that he could resume his NFL career during the 2026 season.
His appearance at training camp represents progress, not the completion of his recovery. Baltimore has not announced when he may join full-team drills.
What Madubuike’s Return Means for the Ravens Defense
Baltimore’s pass rush declined sharply during Madubuike’s absence. The Ravens recorded only 30 sacks throughout the 2025 regular season.
Their four-man rush also struggled to create pressure without additional blitzers. ESPN ranked Baltimore near the bottom in several pass-rush categories.
The defensive front now includes:
- Nnamdi Madubuike as an interior pass-rushing option;
- newly acquired edge rusher Trey Hendrickson;
- defensive tackle Travis Jones;
- veteran lineman Calais Campbell.
Madubuike gives Baltimore a defender capable of collapsing the pocket from the middle. That pressure can create better matchups for Hendrickson and Baltimore’s other edge rushers.
However, the Ravens are expected to increase his workload gradually. Training camp practices will show how his neck responds to contact and repeated football movements.
