Elina lost to Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan in a two-set match.

Ukrainian Tennis player Elina Svitolina (No. 21 WTA) failed to make it to the semi-finals of Wimbledon 2024.

In the quarter final match, the 29-year-old native of Odessa was defeated by the fourth racket of the world Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.

The match lasted 1 hour 2 minutes and ended with a score of 6:3, 6:2 in favor of the Ukrainian opponent .

This was the fifth face-to-face meeting between the tennis players, of which Elina won two. Prior to this, Svitolina triumphed in 2020 in the final of the tournament in Strasbourg and in 2021 in the match for the bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. Rybakina defeated the Ukrainian in 2021 in the 1/8 finals of the competition in Eastbourne and in the 1/8 finals of Roland Garros-2024.

Let's add that Rybakina was born in Moscow. Until June 2018, she represented Russia in tournaments, after which she changed her sports citizenship to Kazakhstan.

Svitolina played in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the third time in her career. Her personal record at this Grand Slam tournament is the semifinals in 2019 and 2023. Elina has never reached the final of a major.

Rybakina is the winner of Wimbledon 2022 and a finalist of the Australian Open 2023. In the semifinals of the current Wimbledon draw, she will face the winner of the match Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia) – Barbora Krejcikova (Czech Republic).

In the other semifinal match, Donna Vekic (Croatia) and Jasmine Paolini (Italy) will face off.

The main draw of Wimbledon 2024 will last from July 1 to 14. Last year, the winner of the Grand Slam tournament was Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova. It was to her that Svitolina lost in the semifinals, showing the best result among Ukrainians.
