Hungary and Slovakia blocked the EU’s 18th sanctions package against Russia until the leaders’ summit on June 26, where the issue will be discussed at the top level.

The EU is preparing a strong statement supporting Ukraine’s EU membership talks, though Hungary will not sign it — the document will be backed by 26 countries.

The EU will consider suspending Hungary’s voting rights under Article 7 on May 27 over threats to the rule of law and fundamental European values.
