Volkswagen has transformed the commercial Crafter into a large camper, the Grand California. The new model has a modern multimedia system and a control panel from the younger California with the ability to control a number of functions from a smartphone.
RBC-Ukraine reports this with reference to the company’s press service.
The Volkswagen Grand California update is primarily aimed at improving multimedia capabilities. Thus, the diagonal of the central screen has been increased from 8 to 10 inches with the possibility of installing a 12.9-inch display. A 5-inch climate control panel has appeared in the living area. By installing a special application, a number of functions will be available from the phone, and it will also be possible to monitor water consumption and battery charge.
The Grand California has a fully equipped kitchen, shower and toilet. The heating system and water heater are powered by gas or electricity. On board there is a stove with two burners, a 70-liter refrigerator, a 110-liter clean water tank and a 90-liter dirty water tank. Standard equipment includes a crosswind compensation system, adaptive cruise control, driver fatigue monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, and a road sign recognition function.
For an extra charge, the Grand California can be equipped with electric running boards, a satellite TV package, and air conditioning. Later in the year, it will be possible to order solar panels with an output of 104/174 watts. These are designed to charge an additional battery, and how much energy is generated depends on the intensity of the sun.
The Grand California has front or all-wheel drive, but only one engine – a 2.0-liter diesel with 163 horsepower. The gearbox is an eight-speed automatic. Prices for the new product in Europe start at 88 thousand euros.
