Joliet attorney Chuck Bretz faces charges for allegedly striking a 4-year-old with a belt in Minooka, filed by special prosecutor Jim Rowe.

A Joliet attorney, Chuck Bretz, has been formally charged in Grundy County for allegedly striking a 4-year-old child with a belt in a violent manner in Minooka, reports Baltimore Chronicle via Minooka Police reports. The case has drawn attention as Kankakee County State’s Attorney Jim Rowe, serving as a special prosecutor, filed the charges nearly three months after Bretz’s arrest in Minooka.

According to the charges, on October 18, Bretz allegedly inflicted bodily harm on the 4-year-old by striking her “about her body with his belt in a violent manner.” The complaint specifies that Bretz faces two counts of domestic battery, a class A misdemeanor, which carries a potential penalty of up to one year in jail.

Minooka police responded to the incident at the 100 block of Mondamin Street. Police Chief Justin Meyer stated that officers initially spoke with a witness who reported seeing Bretz hitting a young female with a belt. Meyer confirmed that the allegation was corroborated by video evidence captured during the incident.

Bretz, 67, is known locally for his legal practice in Joliet, and the case has been highlighted in regional media due to the serious nature of the allegations. Law enforcement continues to review all evidence and has not released further details regarding potential court dates or defense statements.
