Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska met with United States First Lady Melania Trump to discuss shared values and initiatives aimed at protecting children, reports Baltimore Chronicle with reference to Zelenska’s social media posts. Zelenska expressed gratitude to Mrs. Trump for her ongoing support of Ukraine, highlighting her particular attention to children affected by Russia’s full-scale war. She also noted Mrs. Trump’s letter to Vladimir Putin urging peace for children.

“We discussed our shared values, primarily the protection of children and their childhood. I thanked Mrs. Melania for her support of Ukraine. Especially for her attention to children who have become victims of Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine. In particular, for her letter — a call to Putin for peace for children,” Zelenska wrote in her post.

She emphasized the importance of soft power and humanity in today’s world. “I never tire of repeating that I deeply believe in the effectiveness of soft power — in humanity, empathy, and the ability to change reality for the better,” the First Lady said. According to her, through joint efforts of the international community, it is possible to provide essential assistance to all children in need.

Olena Zelenska stressed that protecting children today is not only a shared mission but also a responsibility to future generations. “I sincerely thank Melania Trump for today’s meeting and hope for further cooperation to protect the most precious thing in the world — our children. Today, their protection is not just a common cause but a shared responsibility for our future,” added the First Lady.

During the meeting, they discussed potential joint projects and initiatives aimed at providing psychological and social support for children affected by the war, as well as involving international partners in programs to restore children’s rights and safety in Ukraine.
