Тhree operational nuclear power plants in Ukraine — Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, and South Ukraine NPPs — have three out of nine reactors currently offline for scheduled technical maintenance and nuclear fuel reloading. This was reported by Rafael Mariano Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), reports the Baltimore Chronicle, citing IAEA.
The maintenance work began in early April and is part of the annual servicing schedule. Petro Kotin, head of Energoatom, stated that the scheduled maintenance of all nine reactors under Ukraine’s control is expected to be completed by the end of August.
In the summer of 2024, Ukraine experienced large-scale power outages due to the simultaneous repairs on several reactor units. These actions were necessary to ensure the stable operation of the power system under conditions where thermal and hydroelectric power plants had been damaged or destroyed due to military actions.
