The medical institution reported that patient Richard Sleiman from Weymouth was struggling with the last stage of kidney disease and needed a transplant. In the past, attempts to transplant organs from genetically modified pigs were unsuccessful, so scientists called the success of the operation in Massachusetts a historical stage in the field of transplantation, the material says.

As Ukrinform reported, in January 2022, American doctors performed the first heart transplant operation on a genetically modified pig.
