MD 2 lane closures in Annapolis will begin Tuesday night as Maryland transportation crews start a weeks-long resurfacing project. Drivers using Solomons Island Road should expect overnight delays through mid-November, according to Baltimore Chronicle.

The Maryland State Highway Administration said crews will mill, patch and resurface MD 2 between Grand Oak Drive and MD 450, also known as West Street. The project also covers ramps at the MD 2 and MD 665 interchange. The Maryland State Highway Administration is the primary source for the project schedule.

When MD 2 lane closures will take place

Construction is scheduled to start on October 6 and continue through mid-November. The completion date remains dependent on weather conditions.

Motorists can expect both single-lane and double-lane closures during overnight work.

The scheduled work period is:

  • Sunday through Thursday nights
  • 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
  • MD 2 between Grand Oak Drive and MD 450
  • Ramps around the MD 2 and MD 665 interchange

The closures are planned outside the busiest daytime travel hours. However, drivers using this section of Annapolis late at night or early in the morning could still face delays.

What drivers should expect on Solomons Island Road

Contractor Allan Myers MD of Fallston will perform the work. Temporary signs and traffic barrels will guide motorists through changing lane patterns.

The resurfacing includes milling the existing road surface, repairing damaged pavement and applying a new surface layer. That means lane configurations may change as crews move through different sections of the corridor.

Drivers approaching the work zone should reduce speed and watch closely for temporary traffic controls. The state also advises motorists to avoid distractions while passing construction crews.

Which part of MD 2 is affected

The affected section covers one of the heavily traveled approaches through Annapolis and Anne Arundel County.

How long will MD 2 construction last?

The Maryland State Highway Administration expects the project to run for roughly 5 to 6 weeks. Work begins Tuesday night, October 6, and is scheduled to finish by mid-November.
