IKEA Annapolis is closing October 31, 2026, after two years as the retailer shifts investment toward online shopping, delivery and pickup services.

IKEA Annapolis is closing its Plan and order point after just over two years in Maryland. The smaller-format location will shut on October 31, 2026, Baltimore Chronicle reports. The closure reflects IKEA’s growing focus on delivery, pickup services, and online shopping. IKEA has confirmed the decision.

Why is IKEA Annapolis closing?

The Annapolis location opened in April 2024 on Solomons Island Road. It operates differently from a traditional IKEA warehouse.

Customers visit the location for planning appointments and design consultations. They cannot simply select furniture and take it home immediately.

Instead, staff help customers plan kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms, storage systems, and other spaces. Purchases can then be delivered or collected through eligible pickup services.

IKEA says the closure forms part of its wider U.S. strategy. The company is investing more heavily in home delivery, pickup services, and its online shopping experience.

What happens to customers after the closure?

The Annapolis Plan and order point will remain open until October 31.

Customers will still have several ways to shop after that date:

  • order furniture and accessories through IKEA’s website;
  • arrange home delivery for purchases;
  • use available pickup services;
  • visit larger IKEA stores in the region;
  • book planning services at other participating locations.

Nearby options include IKEA College Park and IKEA Baltimore. IKEA also operates other planning and pickup locations across the region.

For Annapolis customers, the biggest change concerns access to in-person planning nearby. Online shopping and delivery will continue normally.

The store occupied roughly 3,200 square feet at Annapolis Harbour Center. It was designed as an alternative to IKEA’s much larger warehouse stores.

That concept gave customers professional planning services without requiring a full-size retail building. However, IKEA is now adjusting how those services reach consumers.

IKEA is reviewing smaller store formats

Annapolis is not the only smaller IKEA location affected.

The company is also closing several Plan and order or small-format locations in the United States. Closures include sites around Washington, D.C., Virginia, and other markets.

The changes suggest IKEA is testing which physical formats still support its digital retail strategy.

For shoppers, the traditional IKEA store is not disappearing. The company continues operating larger stores while expanding online ordering and delivery.

The Annapolis closure instead marks another adjustment in how IKEA combines physical locations with digital sales.
