Baltimore County Public Library is expanding free back-to-school resources with 24-hour tutoring, homework tools and after-school snacks. The programs cover students from early childhood through high school, as Baltimore Chronicle notes. The library detailed its school-year services this month, while WMAR-2 reported on the expanded support for local families.
Free online tutoring is now available 24 hours a day
Brainfuse gives students access to live tutors rather than automated AI answers. The service covers subjects including math, science, English and social studies.
The library says students can now chat with a tutor 24 hours a day. They can also send questions, use SkillSurfer exercises or submit work to the Writing Lab.
The expanded tutoring window removes one of the biggest limits students faced after regular school hours.
After-school snacks will be offered at 9 branches
Starting September 8, students aged 18 and younger can receive free after-school snacks at participating branches. Children under 8 must have an adult with them.
The participating locations are:
- Arbutus
- Cockeysville
- Lansdowne
- North Point
- Parkville-Carney
- Reisterstown
- Rosedale
- Sollers Point
- Woodlawn
The program gives students somewhere to study, meet friends and eat between school and dinner.
North Point remains a special case because the branch is closed for HVAC work. BCPL says it is scheduled to reopen November 9.
BCPS students already have library access
Baltimore County Public Schools students can use their student accounts to access library services. They may borrow up to 5 items and use online learning resources.

Students can obtain their account information through BCPS or at a library service desk. Online resources can also be accessed using the student account credentials.
Younger children also get early literacy support
Families with preschool children can use the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program. BCPL also provides early-learning materials and activities designed to develop reading and communication skills.
The broader goal is to make the public library a regular learning space alongside school and home. For Baltimore County families, that now includes tutoring, books, digital research tools and practical after-school support in one system.
